I don’t know much German but as soon as I saw this photograph the word spitz popped into my head. I wouldn’t have recognized this structure as a water tower.
yeah, spitz is correct :) it’s the adjective and ‘tip of the iceberg’ is ‘die spitze des eisbergs’ in german. so spitze is the noun.
i thought i could get away with the simple mentioning of ‘water tower’ because this specific water tower was featured several times on this blog already and wordpress usually does a quite good job at putting related posts under the current post so i assumed there would be some posts containing the water tower in its full glory :)

Yes, a couple of the other water tower pictures did appear down below, but I didn’t see them till after my original reaction to the main photograph.
